The Downtown Vernon Association is considered one of the most proactive successful Business Improvement Areas (BIA) in the province.
The DVA's mission is to
Provide programs and services important to the economic viability and vitality of Downtown Vernon, and
Promote Downtown Vernon as a unique and dynamic destination for entertainment, goods, and services.
The activities that the association undertakes follow the guidelines of the Downtown Vernon Concept Plan. This plan was created by gathering input from all user groups as to the direction of public and private activities within the central business district. The issues requiring attention were then identified and are used as the action plans for the DVA.

Berry has a proud history of serving the Vernon area for 115 years and is unique to still operate as a fourth generation family business. Ruth has previously serviced as both trustee and director on the Downtown Vernon Association, and is well known for her passionate commitment to community service. She plays an active role which as made her an asset to many community organizations and projects. She has served as President of Women in Business (2001) and President of the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce (2003 & 2005) and currently serves as President of the North Okanagan Employment Enhancement Society, as well she is a director with the Insurance Brokers Association of B.C for the past 6 years. Ruth is the mother of three and has been married to Dave for 28 years. Her interests include a great passion for middle eastern dance, a great love of hers for over 32 years. Ruth both performs and teaches dance as well, she acts as Artistic Director and Choreographer for the “Desert Moon Dancers” | | | Vice President Klaus Tribes (KT’s Heritage Restaurant) I have lived in Vernon and operated a restaurant at the present location since 1974. I have been married to Pat for 43 years. In the past I have been director and president of the DVA a number of times and also served 18 years on the Council of the City of Vernon. | | | Secretary Trevor Henke (Vernon Teach and Learn) I have been a downtown merchant for many years and am also a landlord in the downtown core. I was on the DVA board in 2007 and a Trustee in 2009 and have seen how important it is to have the DVA to look out for the best interest of the downtown. I have been on the City of Vernon’s “Transportation Demand Management Committee” this year as a representative for the DVA. The issue that I feel is most important for our downtown is PARKING, PARKING, PARKING. We must continue to fight for parking, and a downtown that we want and not let special interest change our downtown. There is a definite threat to the downtown from special interest groups who rarely or never shop downtown and has NO vested interest in the downtown. I am encouraged with the new Events Coordinator, Holly, who has brought forth new fresh ideas that promote the downtown and help get more people to shop downtown. This last year I am glad that some of the founding member merchants of the DVA have returned to the board. They have added a wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership to the board that is priceless. Last year was a long and trying year for me with my wife being in the hospital for so many months. I want to thank those that stepped in to help out when I had to step down from my executive position as president in January 2009. Also, thank you to all who stopped in and asked how things were going. Having a vested interest in the downtown I hope to continue to serve and fight for strong downtown that helps all merchants in the downtown, in this recessed economy. | | | Treasurer Alison Campbell is currently employed with the Royal Bank of Canada (Vernon Downtown office) as a Senior Account Manager, in commercial banking.
