Downtown Vernon merchants rolled up their sleeves & made Downtown sparkle this morning. Businesses came out with their brooms, dust pans, window cleaner & planting tools for the Downtown’s Annual Spring Clean-Up and Sparkle Day.
"The Spring Clean-Up & Sparkle Day was developed to give businesses the opportunity to make their own contribution to the clean-up of Downtown after the course of the winter and make the area more visually appealing for our customers" said Earl Hansen, Executive Director of the DVA.
Downtown business owners and employees both participated. Activities included washing awnings, sweeping, scurbbing the front of buildings, cleaning windows, pulling weeds and planting flowers or getting their flower pots ready. Many businesses also created a new window display or set-up seating areas for their customers.
The City of Vernon crew were also out on Wednesday mornign putting up the hanging baskets throughout the Downtown core.
The local Global Education class (from Fulton Secondary School) came out to paint the benches along 30th Avenue, which show the effects of winter. A donation will be made by the DVA at the request of the Global Education class to the Upper Room Mission in honor of their participation in the event.
Hansen thanked all of the businesses who participated in the program and are committed to making Downtown the best it can be as we start to move in to a very busy time of year. Earl Hansen would also like to thank the City of Vernon crew and the local Global Education class for their assistance.
